Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. ? Washington State dropped a 75-56 Pac-12 Conference road contest to No. 12 Stanford University at Maples Pavilion Saturday.

Junior guard Lia Galdeira led the Cougars (13-7, 4-5 Pac-12) with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals before fouling out. Junior forward Mariah Cooks added 13 points, five rebounds and one bock and junior point guard Dawnyelle Awa finished with seven points. Junior guard Taylor Edmondson and freshman guard Caila Hailey each chipped in six points.

Stanford (16-5, 8-1 Pac-12) used a 12-1 run midway through the second half to help erase WSU's two-point halftime lead. The Cardinal had four players score in double figures, produced a 47-30 rebound advantage, scored 38 points inside the point and shot over 49 percent from the floor. The Cougars were held to 30 percent shooting but scored 18 points off of 18 Cardinal turnovers.

Washington State withstood a hot start by the Cardinal, receiving a three from Edmondson before Hailey provided a big spark off the bench. Cooks started a 7-0 WSU run with a pair of free throws, Hailey followed with a fastbreak layup as she was fouled. The Inglewood, Calif. native sank the free throw and Galdeira capped the run with an acrobatic up-and-under layup in the lane that cut the Stanford to two midway through the half.

Hailey came up big again minutes later, draining a three from the left corner to get the Cougar offense going. In the final minutes, Cooks added to more free throws, Awa sank a three from straight away that tied the game at 27 before Galdeira gave the Cougars their first lead of the game with a steal and layup at the 5:18 mark.

Galdeira later hit a three, added a baseline jumper after stealing the inbounds pass and Cooks capped the Washington State first-half scoring with a free throw for a 39-37 lead at the break. Galdeira recorded 13 points in the first half while Cooks added nine. The Cougars scored 14 points off of 13 Stanford turnovers and shot 43 percent from the floor.

Stanford opened the second half with six straight points before Presley knocked down a three from the left wing and Cooks again scored from the low post to keep it 46-44, Stanford at the 15:48 mark.

The Cardinal then caught fire, using its height advantage down in the low post during a 12-1 run to build a double-digit lead, 58-45. Washington State received a baseline jumper from Awa and a three from Edmondson to make it a nine-point game with 7:12 remaining but Stanford answered with seven straight to hold off the Cougars for good.

Washington State will close out its Bay area road trip Monday at the University of California. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
