PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Athletics will look to assist those in the Pacific Northwest affected by the recent fires by offering tickets to the 2015 football season opener against Portland State, Saturday, Sept. 5, WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos announced Wednesday.
"We realize these devastating fires have impacted so many people throughout our region and continue to do so," said Moos. "Cougar Athletics would like to have those affected by the wildfires as our guests Saturday. Communities around the Northwest have supported Washington State Athletics through the years and we would like to offer some relief by enjoying a Cougar Football Saturday."
Families, firefighters, and relief workers from those affected communities who have given so much these past few months may contact the WSU Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-COUGS to make arrangements for tickets.
Washington State Athletics is also offering one end zone ticket to Saturday's game to anyone who donates three food items or a case of bottled water, which will go towards supporting food banks in the local communities affected by the fires. Donated items can include peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, canned meats like tuna fish and chicken, hearty soups and stews, whole grain cereals and healthy granola bars and crackers. These items may be exchanged for a ticket at the WSU Ticket Office outside of Martin Stadium Saturday. All food items collected at the game will be donated to Second Harvest of Spokane to be sent to areas affected by the wildfires.
Additionally, the Cougars have partnered with KXLY to provide 200 tickets which will be given to people who make a cash donation to the Red Cross from 5-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 6) at the Spokane Federal Credit Union, 601 W Mallon Ave. in Spokane.
