Volleyball Takes 3-0 Win over ETSU

RADFORD, Va. -- Kyra Holt and McKenna Woodford combined for 31 kills to lead the Washington State volleyball team (2-1) to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-21 win over East Tennessee State (0-2) early Saturday morning at the Radford Highlander Invitational tournament held at the Dedmon Center. Holt and Woodford were named to the seven-player all-tournament team.

Holt, a junior from Hercules, Calif., had 17 kills, hit .250, landed three aces and had nine digs. Woodford, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz., had 14 kills, hit .241, served one ace, had two digs and two blocks. Taylor Mims added five kills and three blocks. Haley MacDonald set 38 assists, had one ace and three blocks. Kate Sommer had 12 digs. Tani Stephens had seven digs and three aces with all the aces coming during one rotation in the third set where she served for 10 consecutive WSU points.

ETSU leaders included Brianna Allmon with 11 kills, Hailey Aguilar with 14 digs, Khadijiah Wiley with five kills and four blocks, and Alyssa Kvarta with 15 assists. The Buccaneers hit .140 to the Cougars' .189, but out-blocked WSU seven to six.

“I'm happy with this victory today. It wasn't pretty but we'll take it,” WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “A lot of bright spots. Our hitters responded pretty well (at this tournament) after that rough start against Radford. We need to get home and make some corrections quickly and be ready to play next weekend.”

Washington State plays next in the Idaho Invitational at Moscow, Idaho, Sept. 4-5, taking on UC Irvine, Seattle U and host Idaho.
