Incoming Freshman Finishes U18 Championship

PULLMAN, Wash. – Maria Kostourkova, incoming freshman on the Washington State women's basketball team, competed in the 2015 FIBA U18 European Championship that concluded Sunday in Celje, Slovenia. Kostourkova, a 6-foot 4-inch center, competed for Portugal in the Division A championship that took place, July 30-August 9, in the eastern European city.

Kostourkova averaged a double-double in the tournament with 13.8 points per game and 11.6 rebounds per game. The Sofia, Bulgaria native recorded six double-doubles in nine games. She ranked in the top 10 in seven statistical categories, including first in offensive rebounds per game (5.2), second in total rebounds (11.6), second in double-doubles (6), fifth in field goal percentage (.466), fifth in blocked shots (1.3), sixth in defensive rebounds (6.3), and ninth in points per game (13.8).

With FIBA Europe play concluded for the summer, Kostourkova and fellow incoming international freshman, Borislava Hristova (Varna, Bulgaria), will arriving in Pullman, Wash., ahead of fall classes, which begin August 24.
