Cougar volleyball coaches Jen and Burdette Greeny are among the 2015 inductees to the Pullman Walk of Fame. The Greenys are being inducted in the Famous Sports Figures category, joining E.G. “Pat” Patterson as the WSU Presidents and Distinguished Members of the WSU Community selection, and the Daniel and Nancy Boone Family as the Distinguished Residents honorees.
The new inductees will be honored during the 27th Anniversary of the National Lentil Festival. The ceremony takes place Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m., at the corner of Kamiaken and Main Streets in Pullman. The Walk of Fame was established in 2003 to honor individuals who have served the Pullman community in a significant way, promoted goodwill, improved the quality of life for Pullman residents or brought acclaim to the area through their contributions. This year's inductees brings the number of commemorative granite plaques to 96. Each plaque has the names of these individuals inscribed and have been installed in the sidewalks of downtown Pullman. Brochures listing all inductees are available at the Pullman Chamber office.
In addition to being the Head Coach of the WSU Volleyball program, Jen Greeny was an outstanding volleyball student-athlete and assistant coach at WSU. She also tallied a remarkable 84-12 record with a .875 winning percentage in four years and a state championship title as the volleyball coach at Pullman High School. Burdette Greeny, currently an assistant volleyball coach at WSU, was also a student-athlete, pitching for the Cougar baseball team before playing professionally. He found great success as a head coach in the Pullman Patriots American Legion Baseball organization. Burdette spearheaded the development of the Palouse Summer Series, bringing some of the best legion teams in the Northwestern United States and Canada to Pullman and was the recipient of the Pullman Chamber of Commerce STAR (Supporting Tourism and Recreation) Award which recognizes organizations, individuals and businesses that work to support and enhance tourism and economic development in our region, and is presented by the Palouse Marketing Committee.
