PULLMAN, Wash. –Borislava Hristova and Maria Kostourkova, incoming freshmen of the Washington State women's basketball team, competed in the 2015 FIBA U20 European Championships that concluded Sunday.
Hristova led Bulgaria to a seventh-place finish in the Division B championship in Podgorica, Montenegro, July 2-12. Hristova led the championship with 23.7 points per game, while pulling in 8.8 rebounds per game, and notched four double-doubles in nine games. Hristova also led the tournament from the free-throw line, with a .875 (63-for-72) clip.
Kostourkova competed for Portugal in the Division A championship that took place in Lanzarote, Spain, July 2-12. The Portuguese side fell to Italy, 83-71, in the game for fifth and sixth place. Kostourkova averaged 9.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game in the tournament. The incoming freshman also recorded two double-doubles in nine games, while shooting .449 (35-for-78) from the floor.
Hristova and Kostourkova will remain in Europe to compete for their respective countries in the FIBA U18 European Championships, July 30-August 9. Hristova will compete in Division B and face Latvia, Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and England in group play. Kostourkova and Portugal, competing in Division A, will play in Celje, Slovenia. The team will face Poland, Russia, and Spain in group play. Both competitions will continue to knockout play through Sunday, Aug. 9.
