PULLMAN, Wash. – Maria Kostourkova and Borislava Hristova, incoming freshmen of the Washington State women's basketball team, will be competing in the upcoming 2015 FIBA European Youth Championships this summer.
Kostourkova will compete for Portugal in Division A of the FIBA U-20 European Championship, July 2-12, in Lanzarote, Spain. The team will face the Netherlands, Belgium, and Ukraine in group play, before advancing to the knockout stage of the competition.
Hristova will compete for Bulgaria in Division B of the FIBA U-20 European Championship, July 2-12, in Podgorica, Montenegro. The Division B championship does not feature group play, as Bulgaria will face all nine opponents of the division in 11 days.
Kostourkova and Hristova will then compete for their respective countries in the FIBA U-18 European Championships. Portugal, competing in Division A, will play in Celje, Slovenia, July 30-August 9. The team will face Poland, Russia, and Spain in group play. Hristova will compete in Division B and face Latvia, Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and England in group play. Both competitions will continue to knockout play through Sunday, Aug. 9.
