Cougars Win WSU Spring Tournament

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball claimed all three matches Saturday in the Spring Fling tournament held on the Cougars' home court in Bohler Gym.
In the best of three sets matches, WSU defeated Idaho 25-17, 25-18, defeated Central Washington 25-18, 25-11, and defeated Eastern Washington 25-19, 26-24.
Freshman outside hitter Kyra Holt (Hercules, Calif.) led the Cougars with 22 kills and 10 digs. Other Cougars with double-digit kills included freshman outside hitter Emmy Allen with 16 kills, junior middle blocker Ver'Leea Hardaway with 12 kills, and junior outside hitter Chelsey Bettinson with 10 kills.
Libero Kate Sommer (sophomore, Pacific Palisades, Calif.) led the team with 20 digs while freshman defensive specialist Tani Stephens added another 11 digs.
Setting for the Cougars were freshmen Haley MacDonald and Haylee Mathis. Other WSU players seeing court time Saturday included junior outside hitter Jaicee Harris, junior defensive specialist Shawna Lum, junior middle blocker Bekah Young, sophomore right side hitter Stephanie Logan, freshman right side hitter Hailey Bethune, and freshman defensive specialist Taylor Ellingsen.
The Cougars wrap up the 2014 spring tournament schedule April 12 at Gonzaga University's Martin Center. WSU will play host Gonzaga, Seattle University, Idaho and Eastern Washington.
