Cougars Upset by Arizona
October 10, 2014 | Soccer
PULLMAN, Wash. – Arizona scored three goals in less than eight minutes during the first half and the Wildcats knocked off No. 19 Washington State 4-1 in Pac-12 Conference women's soccer, Friday.
After spotting the Cougars (7-2-2, 2-2-0 Pac-12) a goal, the Wildcats (9-2-1, 3-10 Pac-12) tied the match in the 26th minute on Alexandra Doller's fifth goal of the season. Early in the 32nd minute, Charlotte Brascia's finish inside the near post off a corner kick put Arizona on topo. Dollar added a goal in the 34th minute for a 3-1 halftime advantage.
“We did a lot in the first 25 minutes to control the game, but we did not do a good job finishing the chances we created,” Cougar Head Coach Steve Nugent said. “If we are up 2-0, maybe it is a different story. You have to credit Arizona for making adjustments.”
The Cougars grabbed a 1-0 lead when Kailiana Johnson fed a through ball to Jamie Schnieders in the 14th minute and the senior from San Diego cashed in for her first-career goal.
Early in the second half, Arizona extended its lead when Mykaylin Rosenquist won a scrum in the box and beat Gurveen Clair for her first goal of the season.
Washington State took 10 shots to Arizona's five in the second half and finished with a 17-15 advantage. The Cougars also earned five corner kicks to two for the Wildcats.
Arizona State visits Lower Soccer Field, Sunday at 1 p.m. in a match that will be available via webcast on wsucougars.com.
