Pastore Selected for NCAA's Life Skills Committee

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Athletics' Coordinator of Student-Athlete Wellbeing Jerry Pastore has been selected for the NCAA's Life Skills Yearly Action Team, a two-year commitment designed to assist with the growing student-athlete development demands at the institutional, conference and campus levels.

The Yearly Initiatives Action Team will focus on creating standards for life skills, including how-to guides for implementing new initiatives for student-athletes, creating an annual life skill symposium agenda, conduct student-athlete development webinar discussions and trainings, designing online continuing education content, as well as collaborating with NCAA staff to identify key student-athlete development topics and resource needs at the campus and conference levels.

"I am very appreciative of the support I have received in this endeavor from (WSU Director of Athletics) Bill Moos and (WSU Senior Associate Director of Athletics) Pam Bradetich," said Pastore. "I think that speaks to our commitment at WSU Athletics to student-athlete development. I feel honored to represent WSU Athletics at the national level, and to contribute to the welfare of student-athletes across the nation."

Pastore, along with an NCAA committee member and eight other representatives from member institutions, will look to find ways to improve student-athlete development in areas such as personal enhancement, social engagement and career development. Starting with curriculum development that provides better resources and support for universities by incorporating relevant model programs, the end goal is to help student-athletes be prepared professionally when they enter the work force.

"The challenge we face is to develop relevant and impactful programming that can be easily accessed by our our member institutions," said Pastore. "This is an exciting opportunity as the NCAA works towards expanding its Life Skills programming to meet the growing student-athlete development needs of today."
