BANDON, Ore. - The Washington State men's golf team finished the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship in the middle of the 18-team field, Friday.

The Cougars, currently No. 59 in the Golfstat.com national rankings, are 13-over and tied for ninth with Fresno State. Washington State is one shot back of No. 2 UCLA and within seven strokes of fourth place and 14th-ranked SMU.

"We struggled on greens today and didn't take advantage of the holes we needed to," Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "We played the tough holes as well, if not better, than anyone. If we clean up our mistakes, we could vault up the leaderboard."

Sang Lee is tied for 15th after carding a 1-over 73. Hank Frame, who has six top 10 finishes in his last-seven events, is 3-over followed by Blake Snyder (+4) and Michael Anderson (+5).

Round two is scheduled for Saturday with the final 18 holes taking place Sunday.
