FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Washington State senior Stephan Scott-Ellis finished 11th in the men's long jump at the NCAA DI Indoor Track and Field Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center at Fayetteville, Ark., Friday night.

Scott-Ellis, from Tacoma, competed in the second of two flights, and was one of 16 competitors. He opened with a jump of 24-feet 3 1/2 inches (7.47m), fouled his second attempt, and reached a distance of 24-7 3/4 (7.51m) on his third attempt. Scott-Ellis finished fifth-best in his flight and 11th overall. Dendy Marquis, a sophomore from Florida, won the men's long jump title with a leap of 27-2 (8.28m). Scott-Ellis has a lifetime-best indoor long jump of 25-5 1/4 (7.75m). At the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships Scott-Ellis long jumped 23-5 1/4 (7.14m) for 13th and finished seventh in the triple jump.

Cougar jumps Coach Matt McGee said after the competition, "There wasn't any part that went terribly wrong but overall Stephan just wasn't at his best tonight. He looked good on the runway but wasn't maintaining his rhythm and carrying his momentum great through the last three steps and as a result wasn't able to extend through the take-off as well as he can."

This is the final competition for the indoor season. The Cougars will begin outdoor competition next Saturday in Spokane at the SCC Dusty Lane Invitational.
