Iowa City, Iowa – The Washington State swimming team finished the Hawkeye Invitational in sixth place Sunday with 387.5 points. The Cougars scored 109.5 points in the final day of the contest.

Washington State's first big strike Sunday came in the 200 back. Loree Olson qualified for the A-final and placed fourth with a time of 1:57.59, scoring 15 points for the Cougars. Kelly Tannhauser and Emma Johansson each qualified for the B-final in the same event, placing first and seventh, respectively, for a combined contribution of 11 points.

Junior Nicole Proulx scored five points in the 100 free with a fourth-place finish in the B-final. Her finals time was 51.08.

Frederikke Hall qualified for the A-final in the 200 breast, and her finals heat time of 2:15.93 was good enough for a tie for sixth place and 12.5 points. Sophomore Presley Wetterstrom scored two points by finishing seventh in the B-final of the same event.

Two Cougar freshmen made waves in the 200 butterfly. Kendra Griffin touched a time of 2:03.76 in the A-final of the event, which was good enough for eighth-place and 11 points. Elise Locke qualified for the B-final and placed fourth with a time of 2:02.62, scoring five points. In addition, Washington State junior Alison Mand placed seventh in the B-final for two points.

The Cougars concluded the three-day meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay. Johansson, Proulx, Mand, and Tannhauser finished the finals heat in 3:23.06 for 30 points.

The Hawkeye Invitational was championed by Notre Dame with 823 points. Boise State finished second with 742.5 points, and Nebraska (462) edged Iowa (436) for third place.

The next contest for Washington State will be dual meet with UCLA. The meet will be contested at Gibb Pool in Pullman, Wash., and is scheduled for Jan. 17.
