PULLMAN, Wash. – In its first home meet of the season Friday, the Washington State swimming team fell to USC by a final score of 146-116 at Gibb Pool.

The Cougars jumped in front of USC early with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The relay team of Emma Johansson, Frederikke Hall, Alison Mand, and Haley Rose Love placed first with a time of 1:45.24.

Johansson was the second-highest individual scorer of the meet with 18 points, behind USC's Maggie D'Innocenzo (21). In the 100 back, Johansson notched a time of 56.49 to capture first place. The Cougar senior also championed the 100 fly with a time of 56.26. In addition to being on the winning 200 medley relay team, she was the first leg of the relay team in the 400 free relay that placed second.

Freshman Haley Rose Love made waves for the Cougars with her first-place finish in the 100 free. Love also tabbed a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.22. Fellow Cougar freshman Elise Locke had continued success in her debut season with the Cougars with a second-place finish in the 200 fly (2:03.46).

“We had some impressive swims,” Cougar Head Coach Tom Jager said. “We have a very good medley relay. Emma Johansson, Elise Locke, and Ali Mand all had great swims.”

Mand captured second place in the 100 fly and third place in the 100 back individually. She was also on the winning 200 medley relay team, and swam the third leg on the 400 free relay team that placed second.

Presley Wetterstrom joined the list of Cougars to capture first-place finishes against USC by claiming the top spot in the 200 breast (2:21.30).

The Cougars will travel across state lines Saturday for a dual meet with Idaho. The meet in Moscow, Idaho will begin at 12 p.m.
