IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Washington State swim team completed the Hawkeye Invitational in sixth place after the final day of competition, Sunday.
In the final day of prelims 12 Cougar swimmers qualified for finals later in the evening. Loree Olson continued her dominating performance from yesterday's finals by posting the seventh fastest time in the 200 backstroke. In the 100 free Nicole Proulx and Emma Johansson also finished in the top ten finishing ninth and tenth respectively both earning spots in the finals.
Other Cougars to qualify for finals were Shelbi Luchini (200 back, 200 butterfly), Kelly Tannhauser (200 back), Alison Mand (100 free), Jenna Bekker (100 free), Taylor Indahl (200 breaststroke), Presley Wetterstrom (200 breaststroke), Shanell Sullenberger (200 breaststroke), Kiana Sullenberger (200 breaststroke), and Kelsey Bruggman (200 butterfly).
WSU swimming had another strong showing on the final day of the meet. Olson finished fourth in the "A" final of the 200 backstroke with an NCAA "B" cut time (1:58.72) and moved into second on the WSU All-Time Top Ten list. Proulx won the "B" final of the 100 freestyle (50.72) and Johansson finished third in the same event (50.88). Both Proulx and Johansson moved onto the Cougar All-Time list in the 100 freestyle in fifth and eighth respectively.
After the third and final day of the invitational, WSU came in sixth overall in the field of ten schools with a team score of 278. Michigan won the meet, posting a team score of 876. The Cougars return to the pool Jan. 4, 2013 for a relay meet against Nebraska.
