SEATTLE - The Washington State swim team earned their second victory of the season when they defeated Seattle in a dual meet at the Connolly Center Pool, Saturday.

In the 11 event meet, the Cougars claimed first place points in eight events, helping them to their 59-35 victory over the Redhawks.

In a true team effort, the eight consecutive event victories by Washington State came by way of eight separate swimmers: Starting out with freshman Haley Anderson, who earned first place points in the 1000 free (10:34.53); followed by senior Emma Neely winning the 200 free (1:54.07); then junior Evelina Bieleckaite touched the wall first in the 50 free (24.52); junior Shelbi Luchini then went on to win the 400 IM (4:31.06); next, sophomore Emma Johansson won the 100 fly (56.39); freshman Nicole Proulx was then victorious in the 100 free (53.17); freshman Alison Mand then claimed first place points in the 100 back (58.44); sophomore Heather Morlan closed out the Cougar winning streak by taking first place points in the 500 free (5:14.68).

"Our team looked strong and healthy," commented Washington State Head Coach Tom Jager. "Seattle has a good program that deserves respect. We respect the sport and respect the competition, but we came in here to accomplish certain things and we did just that."

To add to their accomplishments, the Cougars also had six second place finishers: Morlan (200 free), senior Jessie Craig (50 free), sophomore Kelly Tannhauser (400 IM), senior Melissa Bogert (100 fly), junior Jenna Bekker (100 free) and senior Danielle Palumbo (100 back).

Jager added, "We put our swimmers in pressure situations and then gave them the chance to swim. We are in good spirits as we head towards the end of our season."

The Washington State swim team will be back in action when it hosts Pac-12 rival Oregon State, Friday, Jan. 27.
