LOS ANGELES - Washington State's Jazmine Perkins scored 17 points and Sage Romberg added 15 in the Cougars' 78-66 loss to the USC Trojans, Wednesday at the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament in the Galen Center.
Perkins became the 13th player in program history to reach the 1,000 career-point mark. Perkins' 1,009 career points places her 12th on the school's all-time scoring list.
The Cougars were down by as much as 14 in the first half but ended the half on an 8-0 run, which was capped by an April Cook half-court shot at the buzzer, to go into the half down 35-29.
USC pushed its lead back up to double-digits, at 50-39 with 14:20 left, and enjoyed a 54-44 advantage when a Romberg trey cut WSU's deficit to 54-47 with 11:59 left.
Both teams then went cold as neither team converted a field goal in nearly a six-minute stretch. Both team made only a combined five free throws in that time. The drought was broken when USC's Christina Marinacci hit a 3-pointer to put USC up 60-49 with 6:06 remaining and were not threatened again.
