LOS ANGELES -- The Washington State University swimming team dropped its first dual meet of the season, Friday losing to UCLA 166-90 in Los Angeles. The loss is the team's first since it lost to Idaho, Feb. 6, 2010.

Rugile Mileisyte picked up an individual victory in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 56.65 seconds.

Talor Whitaker was the other Cougar competitor to earn a first-place finish. The senior from Chesterton, Ind., led the scorers in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:07.38.

In addition to the two individual wins, the Cougar relays found success, Friday. The team of Melissa Bogert, Mileisyte, Evelina Bieleckaite and Jennifer Dean notched a victory in the last event of the night, the 400 freestyle relay, while the 200 freestyle relay team touched the wall in second.

The Cougars will be back in action next week when they travel to Austin, Texas to take part in the USA Swimming Grand Prix. The three-day meet is slated to begin Friday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 a.m.
