AUBURN, Wash. - The Washington State men's golf team finished tied for ninth at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational, held at the par-72, 7,304-yard Washington National Golf Club.
Junior Trent Sanders led the Cougars throughout the tournament. He finished the final day firing a third-round score of 71 (-1) and finishing the tournament tied for sixth. The event marked Sanders second top-10 finish of the season.
The Cougars posted a team total of 884 (+20), finishing tied for ninth alongside University of the Pacific and UC Davis. WSU finished ahead of Fresno State, Brigham Young and Gonzaga.
"We struggled a little with the rain, hopefully this week's experience will help us down the road," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams.
Freshman Kent Hagen finished tied for 33rd, posting a third-round score of 73 (+1). Hagen was four strokes back of the top 25.
Rounding out the Cougar contingent were senior Nick Ellis who shot a 74 (+2) in the third round and tied for 44th, with a final score of 225 (+9).
Redshirt freshman Cody Robinson finished with a final score of 226 (+10) moving up 12 places.
Sophomore Hank Frame wrapped up the Cougar scorers with a third-round score of 73 (+1) and finishing with 232 (+16).
The Cougars will have more than a week to prepare for their trip to Stateline, Nev., for the Wolf Pack Classic, Oct. 4-5.
