PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Katie Madison and Ireti Amojo led a widespread scoring effort for the Cougars with 11 points each in WSU's 67-54 win over Nevada in non-conference women's basketball action, Sunday at Beasley Coliseum.
April Cook added 10 points and Sage Romberg contributed nine points and 11 rebounds for WSU (2-6), which registered its second win in the last three games.
Seven Cougars scored at least seven points. Carly Noyes scored eight points and Rosetta Adzasu and Brandi Thomas added seven points each for WSU. Nevada (6-2) was led by a game-high 16 points from Shavon Moore.
The Cougars jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the game's opening moments and extended their advantage to 30-20 at the half.
However, Nevada heated up at the beginning of the second half. After spotting WSU the opening bucket of the half, the Wolf Pack went on a 12-0 run to tie the game at 32 with 16:59 remaining.
But WSU withstood the challenge. Nursing a 42-41 lead with 12:31 left, the Cougars scored 14 of the game's next 16 points to open a 56-43 lead with 7:05 left. Amojo accounted for six points in the run. The Cougars maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
For the game, WSU shot 44.2 percent from the floor (23-of-52) while Nevada was 19-og-63 (30.2 percent).
WSU continues its brief two-game homestand, Tuesday, Dec. 7 vs. South Dakota State. Tip at Beasley Coliseum is slated for 7 p.m.
