Sophomore Ali Thompson shot a 1-over 73 to lead the Washington State University women's golf team during second-round play at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, Tuesday, hosted by the University of Washington.

The Cougars' combined for a second-day total of 311 on the par-72, 6,078-yard Tacoma Country and Golf Club, five strokes better than Monday's opening round, and remain in 14th place.

Thompson's second-day score marked a nine-shot improvement over Monday and vaulted her up 22 spots to a tie for 40th at 155 (+11) entering Wednesday's final round. Thompson sits two strokes ahead of teammates Emma Betland and Mallory Kent, with both players tied for 49th at 157 (+13). Betland shot an 81 (+9) Tuesday while Kent was one stroke better at 78 (+8).

Junior Kristen Allard improved on her first-day score as she fired a 79 (+7) and sits tied for 62nd at 160 (+16) while sophomore Ellen Park shot an 83 (+11) and is tied for 66th with a two-day score of 163 (+19).

Play concludes at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.
