VANCOUVER, British Columbia. - Washington State ended the first day of competition at the UBC Thunderbird cup in second place earning 31 points and a win the in the 400 medley relay. Freshman Afton Pickett led Cougar individual scorers with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:07.80).
Pickett, along with Monika Povilonyte, Bryn Mooney and Erin McCleave posted a time of 4:28.10 besting the field in the 400 medley relay. McCleave swam to a third place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:07.36) earning three points while Povilonyte added one with a fifth place showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.98).
Kayli Changstrom posted a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:26.61) with Jane Copland finishing fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.17) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:25.04)to round out Cougar scorers.
The Cougars wrap up the long course meet Saturday, Nov. 5 with the second session beginning at 2 p.m.
