Kate Benz continued her double-double run and Adriane Ferguson recorded another game in double figures in Washington State's 69-50 loss to the Oregon Ducks in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Saturday at McArthur Court.
Benz, a sophomore forward from Portland, Ore., tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds for WSU (4-13, 0-8 Pac-10). The double-double was the third consecutive for Benz, who entered the game as the conference leader in rebounding (9.4/game). Benz increased her double-double season total to six and her career total in that category to nine.
Ferguson, a sophomore guard from Spokane, Wash., led WSU in scoring with 13 points to post her 11th double figure scoring game of the season.
Cathrine Kraayeveld led Oregon (12-4, 5-2 Pac-10) with a game-high 16 points.
Down 9-6 at the 12:50 mark of the first half, the Cougars went on a 9-2 run, which was sparked by a Ferguson trey, to take a 15-11 lead with 7:10 remaining.
The Ducks responded with a 15-3 run of their own to go up 26-18 with 1:42 remaining. A Charmaine Jones' 3-pointer with 29 seconds left closed out the first half scoring and cut WSU's deficit to 28-23 at the half.
Oregon opened the second half with an 11-2 run to extend its lead to 39-25 with 14:35 remaining. The Ducks' lead would not fall below double figures the rest of the way.
WSU returns home to face in-state rival Washington, Saturday, Jan. 22 for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game will be televised live on FSN NW.
