LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The Washington State soccer team (3-1-1) beat Northern Colorado 3-2 Sunday, in its final game of the Loyola Marymount/Holiday Inn LAX Tournament with the help of freshman Brooke Bemis' two goals. The Cougars won both of their games of the tournament.
Junior forward Haley Miller scored the game-winning goal at the 83:55 mark beating UNC goalkeeper Chrissy Marvin from 15-yards out to give the Cougars the 3-1 lead.
Northern Colorado's Megan Bellendir scored the final goal of the game on WSU halftime substitution goalkeeper Brynn Bemis in the final five minutes of the match.
The Cougars took the 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the game when freshman Molly Alexander passed to Brooke Bemis who scored with a 25-yard shot from the right-side of the goal.
Brooke Bemis increased WSU's lead to 2-0 at the 26:58 mark, scoring from 15-yards out.
UNC's Jody Alvarez brought the score to 2-1 38 minutes into the half, scoring on WSU starting goalkeeper Megan Miller with a header off a Chelsey Ekenberg free kick.
The Cougars out shot the Bears 14-6 and produced four corner kick opportunities compared to UNC's one.
Washington State will host Pepperdine Friday, in a 3 p.m. game at Lower Soccer Field.
