LOS ANGELES - UCLA scored the first 16 points of the game and cruised to an 87-60 win over Washington State in Pac-10 women's basketball action, Sunday.
Maylana Martin led four UCLA (8-4, 2-0 Pac-10 players in double-figure scoring with a game-high 21 points and added eight rebounds. Janae Hubbard added 15 points and eight boards for the Bruins.
Juniors Victoria Harrod (Nepean, Ontario) and Joanna Smith (North Vancouver, B.C.) each recorded season highs with 14 and 11 points, respectively for Washington State (3-8, 0-2 Pac-10).
The Cougars first basket did not come until the 11:41 mark in the first half and sparked a 10-2 by WSU to close within 18-10 with 8:07 remaining in the half.
However, Martin scored 16 points in the first half to enable the Bruins to open a 40-18 lead at intermission.
Washington State opens its Pac-10 home season against Arizona, February 13 at 7 p.m.
