PULLMAN, Wash. -- Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.), Jenny Ballou (Portland,
Ore.), and Shanelle Roberts (Tacoma, Wash.) are all in the top 20
individually and Washington State is third in the team standings after the
first 18 holes at the Oregon Invitational at the Emerald Valley Resort in
Creswell, Ore.
Dodd finished the day tops among Cougar golfers, carding a five-over-par
78,
good for 11th place. Ballou (40-39-79) and freshman Roberts (41-38-79)
tied
for 18th. Junior Donna Bell (Prince George, B.C.) shot an 80 and is
currently 26th.
Oregon (306) and California (306) are tied for the team lead heading into
the final day of play. Washington State is ten strokes back at 316. The
Cougars are on pace for their best team finish since they finished third
at
the Lady Lumberjack Invitational in October of 1997. Idaho (322) and
McClennan Community College (323) round out the top five.
California's Vikki Laing (39-34-73) was the individual leader on the first
day. Three Oregon Ducks, Kylie Wilson, Pam Sowden, and Anika Heuser, shot
first round 74s and are tied for second.
