No. 16 WSU Sweeps Oklahoma at Pac-12 Challenge

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The No. 16 Washington State University women’s rowing team swept Oklahoma in three varsity events on the final day of the Pac-12 Challenge at Redwood Shores, Calif.

“It was great to participate in the Pac-12 Challenge,” said Washington State Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. “With three different races, three great teams, and near-perfect conditions, it was a great weekend. We were able to experiment with the lineups a bit, learn more about ourselves, and identify areas to improve. I think this team made the most of its opportunities, and now it’s time to get back to work.”

The Cougar varsity eight (coxswain- Sarah Wu, stroke- Jordan Watson, Mihaela-Teodora Berindei, Ieva Adomaviciute, Mickey Aylard, Nicole Hare, Kellen Srb, Savannah Davison, bow- Morgan Cathrea) won its first race of the spring season, Sunday, posting a time of 6:28.3, crossing the line nearly 23 seconds ahead of last year’s Big 12 Champion, Oklahoma. The time also marked a weekend-best for the varsity eight.

The second varsity eight (coxswain- Julia Monroe, stroke- Noel Christiansen, Kim Coon, Kayla Wakulich, Isabella Watt, Jessi Howe, Sarah Steger, Emily Morrow, bow- Carter Marks) also defeated Oklahoma, Sunday. The Cougars finished in 6:40.1, about 13 seconds ahead of the Sooners. With the win, the second varsity eight claimed victories in two of its three varsity races on the weekend.

Washington State’s varsity four (coxswain- Rebecca Burns, stroke- Tori Gerken, Katrina Tarrant, Megan McDonald, bow- Lucie Weissova) completed the Cougars’ sweep of the Sooners, finishing with a time of 7:32.9, just over seven seconds ahead of Oklahoma. It was the second win in three races on the weekend for the crew.

WSU’s second varsity four (coxswain- Jenna Mangiagli, stroke- Krista Lizardi, Lori VerMurlen, Jessica Newson, bow- Taryn Olson) raced against No. 5 Stanford in WSU’s final race of the challenge. The Cougars finished second behind the Cardinal, with a time of 8:00.2.
