LOS ANGELES -- A limited number of Washington State track and field competitors performed at the USC Trojan Invitational Friday and Saturday at Loker Stadium-Cromwell Field on the USC campus.
Bradly Stevens (redshirt freshman, Snoqualmie, Wash.) threw a lifetime-best in the javelin of 219-feet 10 inches (67.01m) for fourth place. Sam Ferenchak took sixth place with a toss of 207-0 (63.09m) while Kyle Stevens, Bradly’s older brother, opened the season with a toss of 205-4 (62.60m).
In the women’s javelin, Celena Ward (senior, Spokane, Wash.) was the runner-up in the competition with a toss of 150-1 (45.74m) while Kelsie Taylor finished third with a throw of 141-9 (43.22m).
In other field events Saturday, Thane Pierson cleared 6-9 (2.06m) for fourth place in the men’s high jump while Cole Smith cleared 6-5 (1.96m) for sixth. Austin Sodorff pole vaulted 16-1 3/4 (4.92m) for fifth place. Javin Nash-Harris long jumped 20-0 1/4 (6.10m) for 13th. Audrey Ketcham was the runner-up in the women’s high jump after clearing the bar at 5-8 3/4 (1.75m).
Greer Alsop’s long jump of 18-1 (5.51m) was fifth place. Kiana Davis finished eighth with a long jump of 17-8 3/4 (5.40m), Zoe Moller’s 17-1 1/4 (5.21m) was 11th, and Kayla Warren’s 17-0 3/4 (5.20m) was 12th.
On the track, Andrea Smith ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.64 seconds, just 3/100s second off her lifetime-best time, for seventh place. The WSU men’s 4x100m relay of Kyle Farmer, Terrance Chambers, Zach Smith and Lucas Sealby finished fourth with a time of 41.35. The women’s 4x100m relay of Candice McFarland, Danielle Darden, Dominique Keel and Bria’una Watley finished fourth in a time of 45.77.
Friday in the throws held at Cal State LA, Brock Eager placed sixth in the hammer with a throw of 182-4 (55.59m) and Sam Wardell threw 157-3 (47.92m) for 10th. Cameron Brink threw the discus a distance of 152-8 (46.54m) for eighth place. Jada Harvey threw the discus 120-9 (36.80m) for 13th in the women’s discus and Saturday put the shot 41-5 1/4 (12.63m) for 10th. In the men’s shot put, Matt Wardell threw a distance of 49-11 3/4 (15.23m) for sixth place and Jake Callaghan’s mark of 45-9 1/4 (13.95m) was 11th.
WSU’s men’s and women’s teams will compete in the Jim Bush Collegiate triangular meet Tuesday, March 24, against UCLA and Long Beach State. The meet, at UCLA’s Drake Stadium, the site of the 2015 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships, will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
