NAMPA, Idaho -- Washington State sophomore, Alissa Brooks-Johnson, was the runner-up in the women’s pentathlon Friday at the Ed Jacoby Invitational and Multis meet at the Idaho Center/Jacksons Indoor Track at Nampa.
Brooks-Johnson, from Doty, Wash., scored 3,573 points, just under her 2014 personal-best of 3,633 points. Brooks-Johnson ran the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.07 seconds, high jumped 5-feet 1 3/4 inches (1.57m), threw the shot put 32-0 (9.75m), long jumped an indoor PR distance of 17-11 1/2 (5.47m), and ran the 800m in a time of 2 minutes, 23.76 seconds.
Karolin Anders from the University of Anchorage-Alaska won the pentathlon with 3,791 points, 218 points ahead of Brooks-Johnson in the 11-woman field.
In the men’s heptathlon, WSU’s Dino Dodig, a sophomore from Novi Sad, Serbia, was in second-place after the first day’s four events. Dodig scored 2,903 points after he ran the 60m dash in 7.33 seconds, long jumped 22-3 1/2 (6.79m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 41-7 (12.67m), and high jumped 6-3 1/4 (1.91m). Cody Thompson from Alaska-Anchorage leads the seven-man field with 3,004 points, just 101 points ahead of Dodig.
In the only other final event for the Cougars Friday evening, Austin Sodorff (junior, Woodinville, Wash.) finished fourth in the men’s pole vault after clearing the bar at 15-3 (4.65m).
Members of the Cougars track and field teams will continue their 2015 season-opening competition Saturday at the Boise State-hosted meet in Nampa, as well as at the UW Preview Meet in Seattle.
