No. 19 Cougars Host No. 6 Huskies Friday:
The Washington State University women's rowing team will compete in its second home dual regatta this season against the Washington Huskies at Wawawai Landing in Pullman, Wash., Friday, April 12 at 3:40 p.m., not the previous date of Saturday, April 13...the No. 19 Cougars return to Pullman after competing in the 40th annual San Diego Crew Classic last weekend.
Last Year Against Washington:
Last season, the then-14th-ranked Cougars traveled to Seattle to face the Huskies, who were tied for third in the country...the Cougars' novice boat was victorious against the Huskies, defeating them by three seconds, but WSU fell to Washington in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, and open eight events...the Cougars' varsity eight crew has defeated the Huskies four out of the last seven years under 11th-year head coach Jane LaRiviere...the crew has yet to sweep Washington under LaRiviere, while Washington did so in 2004, 2009, and 2011.
Previous Meetings This Year:
Last weekend, the Cougars and the Huskies both competed at the San Diego Crew Classic...the Cougars met the Huskies in the grand final of the varsity four event with Huskies finishing third and the Cougars finishing sixth...during the fall, the Cougars faced off against the Huskies in the Head of the Lake...the Cougars were victorious in the third varsity eight and varsity four events, beating the Huskies by six and three seconds...however, the Huskies outstroked the Cougars in the varsity eight and second varsity eight events.
Last Time on the Water:
The Cougars took the water last weekend at the 40th annual San Diego Crew Classic April 6 and 7...each boat faced tremendous competition as they faced No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 California, No. 7 Washington, No. 9 UCLA, and No. 14 Wisconsin in different heats this past weekend...during the first day of competition, the varsity four boat finished third in its heat and qualified for the grand final Sunday...the second varsity eight and novice eight finished third in their respective heats, while the varsity eight finished fourth in its heat...Sunday, the second varsity eight took the spotlight as it took first in its petite final, out-stroking second-place Iowa by 7 seconds with a time of 6:44.80...the varsity four finished sixth in its grand final behind behind No. 6 USC, No. 9 UCLA, No. 7 Washington, and behind the A and B boats of No. 1 Virginia with a time of 7:35.10...the varsity eight and novice eight finished in second in their respective petite finals.
Cougs Ranked 19th in USRowing/CRCA Poll:
WSU is currently ranked 19th in the nation in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells...six of the Pac-12's seven rowing squads are ranked in the top-20 poll; USC-first, Cal-second, Washington-sixth, UCLA-seventh, Stanford-eighth, WSU-19th; and Oregon State received two votes...Washington State finished sixth in the conference and ranked 17th at the end of 2012...the Cougars return five rowers from last season's varsity eight boat.
Coaching Staff:
Corrie McGrath...Adam is in his third year after coaching his prior two years at Indiana...McGrath is in her fifth year at WSU, after coaching stints at Clemson and Central Florida.
Next Week:
Washington State heads to Gold River, Calif. for the Lake Natoma Invite at Lake Natoma, Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21...the racing will take place all day.

From Highway 195 (North or South), turn west on Wawawai Road at the blinking yellow light...travel on Wawawai Road for 10 miles, the road will end at a stop sign...turn right and drive six miles down into the canyon...go past the county park on the right and over the railroad tracks...the boathouse is a cinderblock building on the right...park on the side of the road or in the parking lot south of the boathouse.
