WSU's Illinois Football Game Moved to Sept. 5

April 6, 1998

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State's season-opening football game with Illinois has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, one day later than originally announced last month, according to Rick Dickson, WSU's athletic director.

"Television is the driving force in this change," Dickson said. "ABC Sports originally passed on the WSU-Illinois matchup, so we arranged with Fox Sports for Friday night (Sept. 4) coverage. Since then ABC has indicated our matchup with Illinois is now one of two intersectional games being considered. Through our Pacific-10 Conference agreement, they have the first pick."

Dickson said WSU has been assured the game will either be shown live at 12:30 p.m. (PDT) by ABC, or by Fox Sports at 3:30 p.m. However, Pac-10 television arrangements for manyl early season games are not expected to be finalized for several weeks.
