Cougars Larry Lewis Named Idaho States Head Coach

November 22, 1998

PULLMAN, Wash. - When the 1999 football season opens, Larry Lewis, for the first time since 1981, will not be on the sidelines coaching with Mike Price.

Lewis, 41, today was named the new head coach at Idaho State.

"Idaho State is very fortunate to have Larry Lewis as their new head coach," Price said of his loyal assistant defensive coach who first joined him 18 years ago at Weber State.

"He will be missed by everyone in the Washington State football family. He has been like a brother to me," Price said.

Lewis, was born in Nyssa, Oregon, and grew up in Vale, is a 1981 graduate of ISU rival Boise State. He was a starting linebacker on the Broncos 1980 national championship team and earned four football letters at BSU.

He served as linebacker (1981-85) and defensive line (1986-88) coach for Price at Weber State, then made the move with Price to Washington State in 1989. He has coached the Cougar defensive ends since 1989 and in 1994 was named the teams assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.

"We appreciate everything "Lew" has done and wish him all the best of luck," Price commented. "Idaho State has a great head football coach and a proven winner in Larry Lewis."

Larry and Lisa Lewis have one daughter, Hanna (5).
