Future Coug Day Brings in Big Number of Applicants on Homecoming Weekend

PULLMAN, Wash. (September 9, 2025) – Washington State University hosted Future Coug Day with nearly 900 visitors touring campus and attending the Cougar Football game last Saturday on Homecoming Weekend.
Cougar Athletics partnered with WSU Enrollment led by Michelle Lewis (Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, New Student Enrollment) and Mica DeMarco (Director of Recruitment) to host the event for the first time since 2016.
"This was a great opportunity for athletics to work with our partners across campus, WSU Enrollment, and the result was over 200 new Cougs," WSU Director of Athletics Anne McCoy said. "We appreciate all the efforts that went into the partnership for Future Cougar Day, with Matt Zollinger, Senior Associate AD, External Strategy and Revenue Generation, leading the charge for Athletics. We look forward to finding more avenues to bring future students to Washington State University."
Nearly 900 people from eight different states including 400 potential Future Cougs toured campus, visited the city of Pullman, attended academic program open houses and the Cougars' 36-13 victory against San Diego State. WSU Athletics provided lunch and a game ticket for the registered Future Cougs while also hosting the volunteer high school and community college counselors in the Gesa Field Press Box for the game.
"This year's Future Coug Day gave students the opportunity to build their own experience, create their own visit to campus and enjoy a Football gameday," Lewis said. "Something new this year was the ability to get admitted on the spot and as a result, over half of the 400 registered visiting students were admitted during and after the event."
Beginning this past February, emails and postcards were sent out with #FutureCoug events for this this fall, Following the event, over 200 students applied and were admitted to Washington State.
