Evans Kurui Earns MPSF Male Athlete of the Week Honor
February 04, 2025 | Track & Field
PULLMAN, Wash. (Feb. 4, 2025) -- Washington State freshman Evans Kurui was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Kurui, from Eldorat, Kenya, took home the victory in the Men's 3000-meter race last Friday in Seattle at the UW Invite. Kurui crossed the tape in 7-minutes, 48.44 seconds, his lifetime best and the 12th-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The victory was Kurui's first in just his third indoor meet and narrowly missed eclipsing Track and Field legend Henry Rono's WSU freshman record of 7:47.4 set in 1977. Kurui now ranks third overall in WSU history in this event.Â
WSU Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field continue their season this Friday-Saturday at the Riverfront Invitational at The Podium in Spokane, Wash.
