PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's soccer team lost to the Pepperdine Waves, 0-1, Saturday night at Lower Soccer Field in West Coast Conference action. After recognizing the senior class ahead of the match, the Cougars and Waves clashed under heavy rain and gusts of wind, as Pepperdine found the game-winning goal in the 61st minute.

With a slick playing surface on the Palouse, both sides took opportunities on goal from distance, with the Waves outshooting the Cougs 17-15. WSU had the higher quality chances, putting nine shots on frame compared to five for Pepperdine.

The Cougars played to a scoreless half for the ninth time this season, falling to 2-5-2 when locked at the break. Pepperdine found the game's only goal as the clock struck 60 minutes, smashing home a point-blank chance from a low-driven cross.

WSU senior goalkeeper Zora Standifer made four saves in the match, tying her season high, and put her gloves to the Waves' goal, despite the pace and proximity of the shot.

Washington State true freshman Maddie Martin, a native of British Columbia, started the match, making her collegiate debut and first-career start.

The Cougars will conclude the home schedule with a Wednesday night match against San Francisco, November 5. Kickoff at Lower Soccer Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
