CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Washington State women's soccer team defeated Oregon State, 1-0, Wednesday night at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Oregon. Cougar freshman Keira Mitchell delivered her second game-winning goal of the season, rocketing home a direct free kick strike in the second half to extend the WSU unbeaten streak against OSU to nine matches.
Mitchell delivered a goal for the second-consecutive match, scoring in the 83rd minute for the second-latest Cougar goal of the year. The Henderson, Nevada defensive freshman, is second on the team with three goals to her name.
The Cougars applied pressure throughout a match with a pair of penalty video-review checks, putting six of 17 shots on target. Oregon State held the Cougs to a scoreless first half, as WSU improved to 2-4-2 when tied at halftime.
WSU's defense earned its fifth shutout of the season and limited the Beavers to just three shots on target in 16 attempts. Zora Standifer earned her second cleansheet as a Coug and WSU brought it's goals against average down to 0.87.
Washington State will remain in Oregon, traveling up the road to face Portland, Saturday night at Merlo Field. The Cougars and Pilots are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.
