Second half woes down WSU

In Case You Missed It
LOS ANGELES – After playing an even 45 minutes to begin the night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, the Cougars (5-2-1, 1-1-1) found themselves on their heels after a quick 10 minute burst by No. 5 UCLA (9-1-1, 6-1-0) to begin the second half as the Bruins pulled away for a 4-0 win over WSU Friday night in LA. The Bruins broke a scoreless draw just one minute into the new half with a quick counter goal by Mia Fishel as the second-year striker posted her fifth goal of the year. Just five minutes later, the Bruins would double their lead with the first of two goals from Reilyn Turner as the freshman added to her team-best goal total with her sixth tally of the season. She would tack on a second strike 10 minutes later in the 60' with a sliding goal to the right side after busting through the Cougars' backline to get on the end of a through pass from Sunshine Fontes. Fontes would notch a goal of her own in the 80' on a long range strike after the Bruins turned a Cougar corner opportunity into their own offensive break to close out the contest.
Early in the game the Cougs had their chances to get on the board first as senior Elyse Bennett had a pair of scoring opportunities but was turned away by the Bruins defense each time. Late in the waning moments of the night, the Cougs, led by freshman Margie Detrizio, again had a handful of chances to come up with a scoring tally only to fall short of the goal.

Stat of the Match
The Cougs suffered their first shutout loss of the season and first since falling 1-0 at Washington Nov. 8, 2019.
