PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State men's track's Jacob Englar and women's basketball's Ula Motuga have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for February 2021.
A junior pole vaulter on the men's track team, Englar has been an ace in the classroom posting a 3.92 GPA as a pre-med, Psychology major. The third-year Coug has been active in his community, volunteering at an assisted living facility for adults with mental disabilities who are trying to live independently. He will also take a volunteer position at Pullman Regional Hospital when positions reopen safely. In addition to his volunteer work, Englar works in the Exercise Physiology and Performance Lab on the Iron Man Project with Dr. Connolly. He is a member of the Cougars' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the men's track and field representative. Most recently, the junior finished second in his event at the UW Invitational clearing 16-8 [5.08m] on the second day in Seattle.
Leading the women's basketball team to new heights in her third season, Motuga has been one of the Cougs' most consistent student-athletes both on and off the court while maintaining a 3.63 GPA in her pursuit of a degree in sports management. As a freshman, the Australian native took on a leadership role in the SAAC and has maintained her presence in the committee for all three of her years at WSU. Additionally, she has been active helping other student-athletes as a PAC counselor each of the last two years. Taking pride in her heritage, Motuga has been an active member of WSU's chapter of the Mitamitaga O Samoa club. On the court, Motuga has started all 18 games for the Cougs, averaging 9.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, while leading her team to the brink of an NCAA Tournament berth.
