Three Cougars Finish in the Top-25 After Day One of the Pac-12 Championships

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Competing among several top-20 opponents, the Washington State women's golf team ended the opening day of the Pac-12 Championships in seventh place overall after posting a 298(+14). WSU and the rest of the field trail behind No. 1 USC which posted a one-under, 283.

Leading the way for the Cougars in the opening day was freshman Amy Chu, as the rookie put her name among the elite on the leaderboard with a one-round total of 69(-2). Chu finished day one tied for second with No. 18 Olivia Mehaffey from No. 15 Arizona State. The first-year Cougar was consistent on the course, putting together a tournament-leading 16 pars to go with a pair of birdies through the first round of play.

Behind Chu, freshman Darcy Habgood ended the day in a tie for 20th at three-over. The freshman is tied with several competitors including No. 1 Andrea Lee from No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 Mariel Galdiano from No. 13 UCLA. Habgood put together 14 pars and one birdie during the first round. Senior Madison Odiorne also finished in the top-25, tying for 25th at four-over, 75. The four-year senior put together three birdies and 10 pars.

Individually, Chu and the rest of the Cougars will try to chase down No. 12 Albane Valenzuela from Stanford who leads the tournament, carding a six-under, 65, in the first round.
