PULLMAN, Wash. - A slow burn in the first half turned into a full on explosion in the second half for the Cougars (6-3-2, 1-2-0) as Washington State netted three goals in the final 45 minutes of play to power past #24 Utah (5-4-2, 0-2-1) Sunday afternoon at Lower Soccer Field. The Cougs took advantage of their aerial superiority on a pair of corner kicks finished off by Maegan O'Neill to jump on the Utes. The two goals by the junior defensive mid were the first goals of her career with the game-winner coming just four minutes into the new half. With O'Neill putting the Cougs up a pair of goals, Morgan Weaver put the game away in the 68' with a perfectly hit side-volley for the third and final goal of the game.
Coach's Quote Of The Match
"We changed our style and changed our formation to try to get something going getting two great goals by Maegan (O'Neill) and a fantastic goal my Morgan (Weaver). I love the response especially from a young team. If you respond like that as a young team, and again five or six freshmen playing with the core group of older veterans out there against a good Utah team, we will take that for sure."
