A Dozen Cougars Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Cross Country Teams

SAN FRANCISCO -- Seven men and five women Washington State University were named to the 2016 Pac-12 Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.

Chandler Teigen and Jake Finney were named to the men's 10-member first team. Teigen is a sophomore from Anatone, Wash., with a 4.00 grade point average and uncertified in a major area of study. Finney is a junior from Post Falls, Idaho, with a 3.92 GPA majoring in mathematics. Receiving men's second team recognition was Nathan Wadhwani, a sophomore from Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada, with a 3.76 GPA and uncertified in a major.

Honorable mention honors were accorded to Jackson Haselnus (redshirt junior, Gresham, Ore., 3.42 GPA in journalism and media production), Paul Ryan (sophomore, Moscow, Idaho, 3.54 GPA, uncertified major), Nathan Tadesse (sophomore, Surrey, B.C., Canada, 3.16 GPA, uncertified major), and John Whelan (senior, Etna, Calif., 3.20 GPA in biology).

Steffie Pavey, a senior from Old Town, Idaho, was named to the women's first team for the third consecutive year. Pavey, currently the president of the WSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), has a 3.92 GPA and is majoring in accounting. Second team honorees were Josie Brown, a sophomore from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with a 3.84 GPA, uncertified major, and Katherine Dittmann, a sophomore from Snohomish, Wash., with a 3.85 GPA, uncertified major.

Cougar women named to the honorable mention team were Devon Bortfeld (junior, Sammamish, Wash., 3.75 GPA, psychology), and Morgan Willson (senior, Colfax, Wash., 3.42 GPA, management and operations).

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. A total of 67 women and 60 men were selected for the 2016 Pac-12 Cross Country All-Academic teams.
