Jack Mooberry was both an outstanding athlete and coach for the Washington State Cougars in a 32-year career which began in 1927. After graduating in 1931, he spent several years in high school coaching at Longview and John Rogers of Spokane before returning to his alma mater in 1946. Over the next 28 years, Mooberry became a coaching legend. Under his direction, WSU became first school to produce All-Americans in every NCAA track and field event while compiling a dual meet record of 123-59-1. While in Pullman Mooberry had seven-straight top 10 NCAA finishes, coached 53 All-Americans, 12 NCAA champions and eight Olympians from three countries.  In 1978 he was named National Coach of the Year by U.S. Track Coaches Association and in 2001 was inducted into the association’s hall of fame. Mooberry also served as assistant coach for the 1971 U.S. Pan American Games Team and the Washington State track & field complex is named in his honor.
