Hall of Fame
J. Fred “Doc” Bohler was a coach, teacher and athletic administrator at Washington State for almost half the 20th century. A member of the world champion Reading, Pa., basketball team in 1906, Bohler came to WSC in 1908 as physical director and coach of the school’s basketball and track teams. He is credited with introducing the one-hand push shot. Bohler Coached the Cougars to a championship their first year in the Pacific Coast Conference (1915). The Helms Foundation inducted him to its football hall of fame and its basketball hall of fame. He directed the physical education and athletic departments at WSU until 1950. Bohler is a member of the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame and the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame.
