With an international competitive career that included a trip to Barcelona to represent Canada in the shot put at the 1992 Summer Olympics and an appearance on the Canadian World Championships bobsleigh team, it is fitting that Georgette Reed’s WSU career began in the pool and ended on the track infield.  A four-sport athlete in high school, Reed transferred to WSU in the Fall of 1986 to join the swimming team as a butterfly/short-sprint specialist before a major shoulder injury that season derailed her swim career.  Reed wasted no time in utilizing her remaining NCAA eligibility as she walked onto the track and field team as a sophomore in 1987-88 and finished the season ninth in the shot put at the Pac-10 Championships.  She improved to seventh in the event and 11th in the discus at her second outdoor conference meet and by the end of her junior season in 1990, she added over 10 feet to her shot put PR and was a qualifier for both indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships.  Her throwing career truly began to blossom as a senior in 1991 when she PR’d seven times in the shot put and six times in the discus, ending the year as both an indoor and outdoor NCAA All-American as well as the WSU shot put record holder.  During her post-collegiate career, Reed went on to represent Canada at each of the major international track and field events: Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games, World Championships, and the Olympics—she finished 17th in the world at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.  Having won 17 Canadian national titles in the shot put and a pair of titles in the discus, Reed shifted gears one final time in her athletic career, this time becoming one of Canada’s best bobsledders during a stint that was highlighted by a 10th-place finish in the 2000 Women’s World Bobsled Championships.  Reed is the daughter of WSU Hall of Fame member, George Reed (football).
