Stanley Franks Jr. begins his first season with the Washington State Football program working in a defensive quality control position.
Franks Jr. spent the 2019 season as the defensive coordinator at Cabrillo College in California. Prior to CC, Franks Jr. coached two years as an assistant defensive backs coach and quality control with the BC Lions (2017-18) of the Canadian Football League.
Prior to coaching in the CFL, Franks Jr. coached four seasons at Idaho State University (2013-16), working with the defensive backs including a 2014 Bengal defense that had 19 interceptions led by All-Big Sky Conference pick Vai Peko’s four. Prior to his post at Idaho State, Franks coached the defensive backs coach for the Spokane Shock in 2012.
Franks Jr. played collegiately at the University of Idaho (2006-07) where he led the country in interceptions per game with an average of 0.75 after recording nine while earning 2006 First-Team All-WAC recognition. Prior to Idaho, the Long Beach, Calif. native earned 2005 Junior College All-American accolades as a wide receiver after catching 62 receptions for 778 yards and eight touchdowns for Long Beach City College. Following his playing career at Idaho, Franks. Jr. signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers.
Before getting into the coaching profession, played in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions (2009-11) where he recorded 70 tackles and three interceptions in 2009 and helped them to a Grey Cup Title in 2011. Prior to BC, Franks Jr. played for the Spokane Shock in the Arena League where he made a team-high 97.5 tackles with eight interceptions for the 2009 Arena Cup Champions.
Franks Jr. earned his bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Idaho in 2008.
