Ray Clark begins his first season in Pullman on Jake Dickert’s staff, serving as a defensive high school scout.
Clark spent the 2021 season coaching the nickels at the University of Idaho after serving in a similar role during the 2020 campaign at his alma mater, the University of San Diego, where a few years earlier he was one of the school’s best safeties.
Clark returned to his alma mater in the spring of 2020, a place where he was a three-year starting safety during his four years (2014-17) and helped the Toreros win four PFL championships and make three FCS Playoff appearances. The Brentwood, Calif. native was named All-PFL three times, including back-to-back second team honors to end his career and was the 2017 recipient of the team’s Dave Adolph “Do You Love Football” Award.
Prior to returning to USD as a coach, Clark was a graduate assistant at Idaho for the 2019 season. With the Vandals in the Big Sky Conference (FCS), he assisted with coaching the defensive backs and ran the offensive and special teams scout units.
Clark has also coached at Augustana University (DII) in the spring of 2019 and Montana State-Northern (NAIA) in 2018. At Montana State-Northern, he worked under fellow Torero alumnus and head coach Andrew Rolin as well as alongside current USD tight ends coach Steve Oliver, who he also worked with at Idaho in 2019.
A 2017 graduate of USD, Clark holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
