Justin Mesa begins his third season in Pullman and second under Head Caach Jake Dickert.
In his first season on the Cougar staff, Mesa served as the Cougars’ Director of Transfer Recruiting after being hired in the summer of 2021. Last season, Mesa worked in an offensive quality control role.
Prior to Washington State, Mesa was the head coach for two seasons (2019, 2020 (played in Spring, 2021) at San Marino High School in California. Prior to SMHS, Mesa was the Director of Player Personnel at Wyoming for two seasons (2017-18), coached the wide receivers and field goal units at Dixie State University in 2016 and served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Calif., for three seasons (2013-15).
Mesa spent six seasons serving in a variety of administrative and coaching roles at the University of Southern California from 2007-12. He originally was involved as a recruiting and operations assistant at USC in 2007 and later assisted in coaching the Trojan wide receivers in 2008. The 2009 season saw Mesa being hired as a graduate assistant coach and was elevated to an assistant quarterback coaching position in 2010 before coaching the USC tight ends for two season (2011-12).
While at USC, Mesa was part of the Trojans’ Rose Bowl Championship teams at the conclusion of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He was also on the coaching staff when USC won the 2009 Emerald Bowl and earned a berth in the 2012 Sun Bowl.
Mesa completed his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from USC in 2007.
