Jim Spooner begins his first season as Washington State's Head Football Athletic Trainer after being named to the position in March 2021.
Prior to arriving in Pullman, Spooner served as a consultant in Boise, Idaho, where he worked with businesses in the health care industry focusing on product design, client relations and customer education. He served as the director of sports medicine for Boost Treadmills from 2018-2020, where he oversaw customer relations and sales in 21 Western states and the National Hockey League.
Spooner spent seven years (2011-18) at his alma mater, Boise State, first as an assistant athletic trainer before ascending to head football athletic trainer in 2013. There he managed the overall sports medicine operations for the Broncos football program.
Prior to arriving back in Boise, Spooner spent two years as the head football athletic trainer at New Mexico State. He served in the same position during 2007 season. Between stints in Las Cruces, Spooner spent the spring of 2009 as the head athletic trainer for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL (hockey). In 2008 Spooner worked with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. Spooner was on staff when the Aces and SaberCats reached the Kelly Cup Finals and ArenaBowl, respectively.
In 2007 he became the head athletic trainer for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe before making his first stop at New Mexico State.
After graduating from Boise State in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training, Spooner went on to hold positions as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Penn State and at Nevada. He was hired as a full-time staff assistant at Nevada in 2004 working with women's basketball and softball.
A native of St. Maries, Idaho, Spooner and his wife Christina, have a son, Cace, and a daughter, Harley.
