Watson and Hare Earn All-America Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Washington State University women’s rowing junior, Jordan Watson, has been named to the 2015 Pocock All-America First Team and her classmate, Nicole Hare, was named to the second team, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Monday.
Watson and Hare both concluded their third seasons with the Cougars, Watson’s second with the varsity team and Hare’s third with the varsity squad. Both rowed with the varsity eight crew this season, leading their crew to a ninth-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships and an eighth-place team finish. WSU’s eighth-place finish marked the best since also finishing eighth in 2008. The varsity eight crew placed fourth at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships as the team finished third overall, its best finish since also placing third in 2008.
Both Watson and Hare have also excelled in the classroom as they both received CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honors each of the last two years, as well as Pac-12 All-Academic First Team accolades this season.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Watson becomes just the fifth Cougar to receive the CRCA All-America First Team Award, joining Ieva Adomaviciute (2013), Corinna Sharick (2011), Irena Neffeova (2008) and Sarah Waterfield (2006).
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Hare earns her second-straight All-America Second Team nod, as she is the ninth Cougar rower to be named to the team for the 12th time. She joins Jody Thomas (2006, 2005) and assistant WSU rowing coach Corrie McGrath (2003, 2002) to earn the honors twice. This season also marks just the fourth all-time that two Cougars have been named to the first and/or second All-America teams.
Watson was named to the CRCA Region 5 First Team and Hare to the Second Team in May, which made them eligible to receive All-America Accolades.
In order to earn the honors, a student-athlete must have competed in 75 percent of the spring races and been nominated by her institution. The selections are based on the strength of finish of the institution’s varsity eight within the country, coaches’ comments and the student-athlete’s 2k erg score.
Seven rowers from Pac-12 schools were named to the 21-member first team, while five made the 21-person second team.
