PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State football continued spring practice with a two-hour workout in shorts, helmets and shoulder pads on Rogers Field and in Martin Stadium Thursday afternoon.
The Cougars worked through their usual practice segments of individual position drills, one-on-one battles, 7-vs-7 and special teams that focused on the punt coverage before closing the day with team.
In the team session, quarterback Connor Halliday operated the first series. The defense received a "sack" from defensive end Lyman Faoliu but Halliday answered with a long touchdown pass to wide receiver Dominique Williams. The defense came right back with a "sack" from linebacker Kache Palacio. A couple plays later saw running back Teondray Caldwell bust through the line for a 10-yard rush.
Later in the drive, wideout Robert Lewis made a nice one-handed grab and scampered up the sideline to pick up a first down. Halliday capped his day with a perfectly thrown pass that wide receiver Gabe Marks caught over his shoulder in the end zone for a touchdown. Caldwell capped the series with a touchdown run over the left side.
Quarterback Austin Apodaca led the second series and completed a couple early passes to Marks before both the offense and defense traded successful plays/stops. The final play of the drive saw defensive back Mike McAdie break up an Apodoca pass in the end zone.
The Cougars continue spring drills with a 10 a.m. scrimmage Saturday in Martin Stadium.
